CSK’s Disappointing Total

CSK’s day took a bitter turn even before the match started when MS Dhoni was handed the leadership role after regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out for the season due to an elbow injury. Despite the leadership change, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bowl first.

CSK’s opening pair of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra started cautiously, managing just 16 runs in the first three overs. Conway attempted to accelerate but was dismissed by Moeen Ali while attempting a reverse sweep. The LBW decision was upheld on the umpire’s call, giving Moeen a wicket maiden and putting KKR on top.

Narine led the bowling chart with 3/13, with the rest of KKR’s spin attack contributing at least one wicket each. The spinners dominated, claiming six wickets, which is the most ever against CSK in an IPL innings.

KKR’s Dominant Chase

Chasing a mere 104, KKR openers Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine started with a bang, scoring 46 runs in the first four overs. Debutant Anshul Kamboj gave CSK a brief moment of joy by dismissing De Kock for 23 (16), but Rahane joined Narine and the duo quickly took control.

They attacked Khaleel Ahmed, scoring 18 runs in the sixth over, as KKR ended the powerplay at 71/1, nearly sealing the chase. Narine continued his assault, smashing two consecutive sixes off Ravichandran Ashwin. Eventually, Noor Ahmad dismissed Narine for a blistering 44 off 18 balls.

Rinku Singh came in and finished the game in style, hitting a six with Rahane, as KKR sealed the chase in just 10.1 overs, with 59 balls to spare.

Sunil Narine was named Player of the Match for his stellar all-round performance. His 3/13 with the ball and 44 off 18 balls guided KKR to a dominant victory. This win also gave KKR a massive boost to their net run rate.
